Carlo Ferdinando's Daughter - Adine's Journey In Jordan
(God Through Carlo Ferdinando and Anne Terri With The Holy Spirit)
Earlier this month, Adine shared with her papa that she was going to travel to Jordan to the area of Mount Nebo and Petra. This was a beautiful journey into the desert to interact with the Bedouins, the nomads of the area, who take the tourists by camel to see the Petra village.
We begin our photographic journey through her eyes, with the Stone commemorating Moses at the entrance to the mountain. Mount Nebo is where I Stood Moses to see the Promised Land. Mount Nebo is 2680 feet above sea level. From the top one can see The Holy Land, and a view of the north valley where the River Jordan flows. This view if of the west bank of the city of Jericho, and if the weather is clear you may see Jerusalem.

Adine traveled on camel through the desert with a Bedouin guide to get to Petra. Our photographer is on the last camel, there are also others taking photos of the desert journey in Jordan.

The Bedouins of Petra are living much as they did in the past. What impressed Adine most was the nomads who travel the desert, the Bedouins of Petra. In the photograph below, he is preparing to make fire.

This man is relaxing in the shade. The sun is very intense in the desert. The Bedouins of Petra help the tourists understand the region and their way of life in the desert.

As one enters the crevasse, a dark alley way of stone cliffs, they get a peek of the Treasury of Petra, glimmering in the sunlight.

Remember, there were many religions who worshiped many gods. In the region of Petra, which is in Jordan along the south west border, This massive monument was built around 312 BC. This is a magnificent structure, to witness as one comes through the tall cliffs out of the darkness.

There are many unique buildings carved into the stone face of the cliffs. The photo below is of the Obelisk Tomb the Triclinium.

Petra - City of Stone - Jordan
If shaping the natural world is a sign of civilization, the Nabataeans were one of the most civilized peoples of antiquity. The spectacular ruins of Petra, chiseled by hand into the sandstone cliffs of southern Jordan, are testimony to Nabataean engineering and artistry--in the form of freestanding temples and nearly 3,000 rock-cut tombs, dwellings, banquet halls, altars, and niches. Not only were these structures elaborately carved but they were also covered with stucco and brightly painted, creating a spectacle of brilliant facades set against a backdrop of rose-colored cliffs.
Petra was a settlement whose streets and architecture sprawled along winding gullies and up steep cliffs. The Nabataeans developed the technology to harness natural springs to sustain fertile crops, lush gardens, and an impressive system of pools and reservoirs, all of which supported a booming population. At its height, around AD 50, the city and its environs boasted as many as 20,000 residents.
Petra Rediscovered
Petra's location in the Holy Land of Arabs, Christians, and Jews added enormously to its allure. Some writers identified Petra--wrongly--with ancient Edom, cursed in the Old Testament for having barred Moses and the Israelites. In long-abandoned Petra, many visitors saw powerful confirmation of the prophet Jeremiah's words: "Edom shall be a desolation: every one that goeth by it shall be astonished." Others found the city's enigmatic past and the startling beauty of its natural landscape attraction enough.
The People of Petra the Nabataeans,
The story of the city of Petra is veiled in mystery. It starts with a
group of Arabian nomads called the Nabataeans, who led fruitful lives
as desert traders. Scant clues exist to reveal exactly where these
migrants originated, but it is clear that they had acquired control of
the ancient incense and spice trade throughout the Arabian Peninsula by
the first century BC. What remains unclear is why these
successful, nomadic merchants settled down, shifting to an urban
lifestyle. As city dwellers, the Nabataeans took pride in their
prosperity. Inscriptions carved in stone list religious offerings of
silver and gold, and monumental rock-cut tombs at Petra and the city of
Hegra reveal that the Nabataeans had great wealth and power. Petra was
their crown jewel, the thriving capital of Nabataea.
