God's Film Review: Lawrence of Arabia (God Through Anne Terri)
'The Man, T. E. Lawrence, is depicted in this Hollywood epic as a mild mannered, young British soldier, who is bored in his desk duties, and asks to be transferred into a more active post. He receives a mission to go in to Arabia during World War I, to mingle with the Arab tribes, and to find out the intentions of Prince Feisal.
Many men were considered for the role of T. E. Lawrence, with Peter O'Toole winning the coveted role. He controlled the role with finesse, mesmerizing the audience with his fine acting skills.
Fascinating, wide-screen shots, done in the way of old Hollywood, lend to the realism of this incredible story - the story of a man who would be Prophet, but falls to the ways of his new found Arab friends.
Anne who is Receiving My Word, in order to bring your My Review, was amazed to see the desert scenes, especially references to the Sinai Desert, one of which T. E. Lawrence crossed. He says, if Moses could cross the Sinai, then I can. Unfortunately, Lawrence becoming more and more full of himself, fails to heed to danger, and takes with him two young boys, Arab servants who worship him and depend on him for survival. They in time, one by one, fall to the hardships of such a man's bad decisions.
The movie in graphic reality, shows Lawrence's final battle. The viewers witness Lawrence wielding a a gun, shooting at everyone encountered, who are in a retreating Turkish army. His Arab friend, Sherif Ali recoils in horror, realizing his British friend had gone completely mad. These beaten soldiers were not the target, and had already been defeated in a prior battle. They were barely standing on their feet, unable to defend themselves.
After this, Lawrence's ultimate goal, Damascus, became his final undoing, realizing himself, that his once peaceful ways had turned sour. When one holds a gun, shoots the weapon at a human, and feels joy at the evil coming up within himself, it is a sad revelation. He chooses to leave Arabia, retreating back to England, to become as he put it, 'Normal'. He realized he was not Divine, and that his body did indeed feel the wounds. What was more wounded was his soul.
AMEN''
