A couple of days ago, President Obama was awarded the Nobel -Peace -Prize.
Today in Rome, five new Saints will be made. One of them is Josef de Veuster, born in the 1940s in Tremelo, a town near Brussels in Belgium.His name was changed to Damiaan, and he is known all over the world, by the name of Pater Damiaan ( Father Damian).
He went to Hawaii in 1883, where he became a priest in 1864, in Honolulu.
After that, he went to the leper island Molokaï, and he chose to stay there to help the sick people until his death, in 1889.
He chose to be with the sick. He knew he would be one of them; he did this by choice. He chose to do it for Love; Love of the people.
I do not think anyone deserves the title of Saint more than he.
In Tremelo today there is great joy, because a son of the rainy town has been raised as an example for the world.
