1 Samuel 5:1-5 The Philistines, who took the ark of God, brought it from Eben-ezer unto Ashdod to the house of Dagon...(Pagon god)
Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD; (they set him in his place and the next morning they find him fallen again) and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold ...neither the priests of Dagon nor any that come into Dagon's house, tread on the threshold....

1: And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it from Eben-ezer unto Ashdod.
2: When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon.
3: And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.
4: And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him.
5: Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon's house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod unto this day.



1 Samuel 5:6-7 the hand of the LORD upon them of Ashdod ... smote them with emerods ... they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us ...

6: But the hand of the LORD was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with emerods, even Ashdod and the coasts thereof.
7: And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said,
The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us: for his hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our god.



1 Samuel 5:8-9 The lords of the Philistines decide: Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about unto Gath ... the hand of the LORD smote the men of the city ... they had emerods

8: They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel?
And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about unto Gath. And they carried the ark of the God of Israel about thither.
9: And it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of the LORD was against the city with a very great destruction: and he smote the men of the city, both small and great, and they had emerods in their secret parts.

10: Therefore they sent the ark of God to Ekron. And it came to pass, as the ark of God came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, They have brought about the ark of the God of Israel to us, to slay us and our people.
11: So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go again to his own place, that it slay us not, and our people: for there was a deadly destruction throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there.
12: And the men that died not were smitten withthe emerods: and the cry of the city went up to heaven.

Bleeding piles known to the ancient Romans as mariscae, but more probably malignant boils of an infectious and fatal character. With this loathsome and infectious disease the men of Ashdod were smitten by the hand of the Lord. This calamity they attributed to the presence of the ark in their midst, and therefore they removed it to Gath (1 Sam. 5:6-8). But the same consequences followed from its presence in Gath, and therefore they had it removed to Ekron, 11 miles distant. The Ekronites were afflicted with the same dreadful malady, but more severely; and a panic seizing the people, they demanded that the ark should be sent back to the land of Israel (9-12; 6:1-9).

Judges 14:1-3 Samson chooses a woman of the daughters of the Philistines to be his wife. His father and mother are concerned, for the Philistines are of the uncircumcised.

Judges 14:5-6 Samson and his father and mother are in Timnath. In the vineyards, Sampson, filled with the Spirit of the LORD, rent an angry lion as he would have rent a kid.

Judges 14:7-9 the woman pleased Samson ... he finds a swarm of bees and honey in the carcase of the lion.

Judges 14:10-14 Sampson made a feast. He challenges thirty companions to solve this riddle: Out of the eater came forth meat, and out of the strong came forth sweetness ... And they could not in three days expound the riddle.

Judges 14:15-20 Samson's wife is threatened by the thirty companions, to entice her husband to tell the riddle. She cries to him for seven days. On the seventh day he tells her the riddle. JUDGES 15 - STUDY GUIDE

Judges 15:1-3 Samson is not suffered to see his wife by her father. He offers him her younger sister instead.

Judges 15:4-8 Samson burns the Philistines Shocks, corn, vineyards and olives. They in turn, burn his wife and her father. All this because she had been given to his companion by her Timnite father.
Sampson avenges this, with a great slaughter

Judges 15:9-13 The Men of Judah, who are under the rule of the Philistines, bind Samson and deliver him to them, yet the men of Judah swear to Samson, they will not kill him.

Judges 16:1-2 Samson goes to Gaza, takes for himself a harlot. The Gazites lay in wait to kill him in the morning

Judges 16:3 At midnight, Samson takes the doors of the city gate ... carries them to top of hill before Hebron

Judges 16:4-5 Samson meets and loves Delilah. She is asked by the Philistines to see wherein his great strength lieth, offering each to pay her eleven hundred pieces of silver

Judges 16:6-15 Deliah ask Samson wherein thy great strength lieth, and he lies to her, mocking her three times. Each time the Philistines lay in wait to take him, and each time she says...The Philistines be upon thee Samson.

Judges 16:16-17 Delilah pressed him daily, and Samson tells her the truth with all his heart ... if I be shaven, then my strength will go from me ...

Judges 16:22-24 Samson's hair grows ...The lords of the Philistines offer a great sacrifice unto Dagon their god ... the people praise Dagon for delivering Samson ... which slew many of us

Judges 16:25-31 The people call for Samson. They make sport of him ... he is placed between the pillars. He asks the lad holding him to place him where he can feel the pillars. He prays to GOD for strength to avenge the Philistines. Pressing the pillars, he asks to die with the Philistines. He brings down the house upon all their heads, killing all within. Samson buried at the place of Manoah his father.
