Siddhārtha Gautama
Siddhārtha Gautama, was a Spiritual teacher from ancient India, who was The Buddha.
The word Buddha means to be the 'awakened one'.
As with many ancient figures in history, the actual time they lived on earth is not known.
At this time experts place Siddhārtha Gautama's time line between 563 BCE and 483 BCE.
This would place him as living in ancient India during the age of the Magadha Empire which was from 684 BCE to 424 BCE.
However, as time progresses, these dates have been narrowed by some to between 486 and 483 BCE , and by others to between 411 and 400 BCE.
This chance would place Siddhārtha Gautama in India during the The Nanda Empire which was from 424 BCE to 321 BCE
He has been given credit by most who study Buddhism, as being the Supreme Buddha.
Buddha: a Buddha is an enlightened one who has become knowledgeable to the Truth, or Dharma.
What was known of the teachings of Buddha Gautama, were passed down orally. It is said, that these were memorized by his followers after he died. It was not until 400 years after that his teachings were written.
This is interesting for this is approximately when Jesus the Christ was born.
Gautama, is thought of as a god or prophet by many who study Hinduism, as well as other religions which are practiced, including Ahmadiyya Islam and in the Bahá'í Faith
This is how some follower see the life of Buddha Siddhartha Gautama:
Buddhism began in India, approximately 2,500 years ago. It is said, this happened when Siddhartha Gautama found the way to bring happiness into the world.
When born, his small kingdom of Kapilavastu, brought him into the family of his father, who was King Suddhodana and his mother was Queen Maya.
Buddha Siddhartha, or Prince Siddhartha, became part of a prophecy of the wise men. They predicted he would become a Buddha. His father, the king was dismayed. His son, the prince, should be mighty and a ruler. He told his wife, the Queen, "I will make life in the palace so pleasant that our son will never want to leave." Yes, life was pleasant in the Kingdom of Kapilavastu. Prince Siddhartha met a beautiful princess, named Yasodhara. He married her when he was only sixteen, and it is said, that the king built for them three palaces. This was a lavish and happy life, filled with luxuries.
Let us look closer... On September 3, 2008 I did preliminary research on Buddhism, never realizing God Would Ask me to do this section in more detail. I bring forward, some of what I found.
