EPISTLE TO HEBREWS 8 - STUDY GUIDE
Hebrews 8:1-2 the sum: We have ... an high priest ... on the right hand ... of the Majesty ... A minister ... of the true tabernacle,
which the Lord pitched
Hebrews 8:3-6 every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices ...(Jesus) if he were on earth he should not be a priest ... Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle ...but now hath he (Jesus obtained a more excellent ministry ... the mediator of a better covenant
Hebrews 8:7-13 saith the Lord ... I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah..
Hebrews 8:1-2 the sum: We have ... an high priest ... on the right hand ... of the Majesty ... A minister ... of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched
1: Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum:
We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty
in the heavens;
2: A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.
3: For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer.
4: For if he were on earth, he
should not be a priest,
seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law:
5: Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God
when he was about to make the tabernacle: for,
See, saith he,
that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.
6: But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is
the mediator of
a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.
Hebrews 8:7-13 saith the Lord ... I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah...
7: For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.
8: For finding fault with them, he saith,
Behold, the days come, saith the Lord,
when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:
9: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt;
because they continued not in my covenant,
10: For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel
after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them
a God, and they shall be to me a people:
11: And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know
the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.
12: For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
13: In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

Matthew 9:10-17 I Will Have Mercy, And Not Sacrifice
10: And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples.
11: And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners?
12: But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.
13: But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
14: Then came to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not?
15: And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast.
16: No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse.
17: Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.
A NEW COVENANT
JEREMIAH 31:31-40 Saith the LORD, I Will make a new covenant with the House of Israel, with the house of Judah...
31: Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
32: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:
33: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
34: And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD; for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
35: Thus saith the LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The LORD of hosts is his name:
36: If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the LORD, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever.
37: Thus saith the LORD; If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the LORD.
38: Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that the city shall be built to the LORD from the tower of Hananeel unto the gate of the corner.
39: And the measuring line shall yet go forth over against it upon the hill Gareb, and shall compass about to Goath.
40: And the whole valley of the dead bodies, and of the ashes, and all the fields unto the brook of Kidron, unto the corner of the horse gate toward the east, shall be holy unto the LORD; it shall not be plucked up, nor thrown down any more for ever.
