AT THE TOMB AFTER CRUCIFIXION
JOSEPH OF ARIMATHAEA
Matthew 27:57-61 Joseph of Arimathaea ... Jesus'disciple ... begged the body of Jesus ... laid it in his own new tomb ... there was Mary Magdalene and the other Mary
57: When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple:
58: He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.
59: And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,
60: And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.
61: And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre.
(Mark 15: 40-47) In Mark, Joseph is not named as a disciple, and is an Honorable counselor, vs rich as in Matthew's account. Note also it is the day before the sabbath, and it is a new tomb, Joseph's own.
Mark 15: 40-47 The Women Witnesses and the Evening Of The Crucifixion ... Joseph of Arimathaea (Friday Evening)
40: There were also women looking on afar off: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome;
41: (Who also, when he was in Galilee, followed him, and ministered unto him;) and many other women which came up with him unto Jerusalem.
42: And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation,, that is, the day before the sabbath,
43: Joseph of Arimathaea, and honourable counseller, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus.
44: And Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead.
45: And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph.
46: And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre.
47: And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid.
(Luke 23: 50-54) Arimathaea is a city of the Jews. Joseph is a good man and just. Awaits God's Kingdom. No man had ever laid in the tomb hewn in stone. Preparation for Sabbath.
Luke 23: 50-53 (Joseph of Arimathaea claims Jesus' body – Lays Jesus in a stone sepulchre)
50: And, behold, there was a man named Joseph, a counseller; and he was a good man, and a just:
51: (The same had not consented to the counsel and deed of them;) he was of Arimathaea, a city of the Jews: who also himself waited for the kingdom of God.
52: This man went unto Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus.
53: And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid.
54: And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on.
(John 19: 38-42 ) Joseph of Arimathaea is also named a disciple of Jesus and has secret fear of Jews. Nicodemus is there, and is not mentioned in Matthew, Mark or Luke in this section. He anoints Jesus. Jesus New Sepulchre is in a garden.
John 19:38-42 (Joseph of Arimathaea claims Jesus' Body For Burial and Nicodemus brought a mixture of Myrrh and Aloes)
38: And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus.
39: And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight.
40: Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.
41: Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid.
42: There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews' preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.

After The Crucifixion: Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome arriving to anoint the body. (Mark 16: 1)
(John 19: 39-42)

42: There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews' preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.
THE WOMEN WITNESSES AT THE TOMB
(Matthew 27: 61) Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary
(Mark 15: 47)The other Mary becomes the Mother of Joses.
(Mark 16: 1) Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome arriving to anoint the body.
(Luke 23: 49) No names, just the women
(Luke 24: 10) Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and other women.
(John 20:1) Mary Magdalene
1: The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.
Carlo Ferdinando's Note: Carlo pointed out to me this morning, that the first day of the week for the Jews could be Sunday, which is not the Christian's Sabbath. For a Christian, Monday begins the week. Therefore, Jesus would have risen on Sunday morning.
Anne Terri: I also believe some of the confusion lies in the time between the evening of the Crucifixion, which is the preparation for the Sabbath, and would also encompass the second day of The Feast of Unleavened Bread - AND - the anointing that evening by Nicodemus - AND - when Jesus leaves the tomb. If the ladies arrived to anoint Jesus, and found him gone, and they did it after the Sabbath was finished it would have been on Sunday morning.
Mary Magdalene then goes back to town to tell the others what she has witnessed. In confusion you have different accounts of how many angels, and who was actually with her and when. I feel John finally added what was forgotten later, in his puzzling like Gospel.
It seems to fit together with Mark surname John, as the missing pieces. ( Acts 12: 12-17)

Anne Terri's Notes – John 20
This section brings tears of joy, for in this I believe. There is much said here by John that opens the eyes. We know Mary Magdalene, Simon Peter, and John (the other disciple) have arrived at the empty tomb. We sense a strong love and friendship between Simon Peter and John. They are surprised at finding it empty and the burial garments neatly folded. John believes what he has been told by Mary Magdalene, that Jesus is not in the tomb.
(John 20:1-8)
John 20: 1-8 John 20: 1-8 Mary Magdalene At The Tomb With Peter
1: The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.
2: Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.
3: Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre.
4: So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre.
5: And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in.
6: Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie,
7: And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.
8: Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.
THE ANGEL/ANGELS/MEN/MAN - AT THE TOMB
(Matthew 28:2) Notes:One Angel from heaven speaks to Mary Magdalene and other Mary who witness an earthquake. The Angel has a lightning appearance, pure white. He tells them Jesus has risen from the dead.
(Mark 16: 1-3) Notes: There is a young man in the tomb dressed in long white garment, saying Jesus is risen, and to tell Peter and disciples Jesus has gone to Galilee.
No Earthquake. No guards fleeing. Angel from Matthew becomes young man. Here, the two Marys flee in fright.
(Luke 24: 4-7) Notes: Two Men in shining garments speak to Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and other women. Two Men Speak of the fulfilled prophecy of Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection
John 20: 10-13 Mary Weeps - She Sees Two Angels
10: Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.
11: But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre,
12: And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.
13: And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.

Matthew 28:11-15 The Soldiers Given Money To Lie
11: Now when they were going, behold, some of the watch came into the city, and shewed unto the chief priests all the things that were done.
12: And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave large money unto the soldiers,
13: Saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept.
14: And if this come to the governor's ears, we will persuade him, and secure you.
15: So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.
