It was reveled, amongst documents, pertaining to Pope John Paul II's life, that he practiced self flagellation.
Sister Tobiana Sobodka, of The Roman Catholic Church, who worked for Pope John Paul II in the Vatican, and at his private residence, said she heard the sounds of self flagellation, which he would put himself through in an effort to atone for his sins. She called this ''bodily penance.'' This has also been confirmed by one of the Pope's Secretaries, Bishop Emery Kabongo.
Pope John Paul II is being considered for Sainthood.
